Quiggleys is a very simple idea. Great mens knitwear made in Scotland with a healthy disregard for fashion and a commitment to quality and provenance.
It’s owner and founder Chris Blott spent the first half of his career as a fashion and portrait photographer shooting campaigns for the likes of Hobbs and Clarks. His passion for portraiture has lead to him photographing David Cameron in Downing Street and on the other end of the scale producing a series of portraits of car thieves in Glasgow.
Chris has also worked with just about all of the big Scottish knitwear producers which inevitably lead to the birth of Quiggleys.
“I was increasingly photographing this amazing knitwear, the best in the world, but the target audience and the cut of the jumpers was aimed at an older more traditional market. And so my idea was simply to take this great knitwear and slim it down a bit and present it to a younger audience.
All our jumpers are made in Scotland by people I know. Our yarn is spun in Scotland by a 200 year old family run business. It’s true I like to keep things simple but it’s also important to me to know the people behind every single Quiggleys jumper.
Quiggleys is not about re-inventing the humble jumper. These patterns, textures and cables are etched into the fabric of Scotland and to try and claim we are designing them seems a little disingenuous. At best we’re editing or curating what has already been created over hundreds of years. When jumpers were made many years ago they needed to satisfy two crucial criteria, they must be warm and durable. It’s only in recent history that we’ve demanded that they also look
good. Luckily at Quiggleys we’re more than happy to meet this new criteria! "
